Uncapped James Coles becomes most expensive player in inaugural Men's Hundred auction

Young English uncapped talent James Coles became the most expensive player in the inaugural Men's Hundred auction after being purchased for a whopping GBP 390,000 by London Spirit. Coles was expected to grab a lot of eyeballs during the auction following his mercurial rise over the last few months and that ultimately led to a frantic chase by multiple teams before Spirit ended up spending a little over one-third of their budget on the player.

Jordan Cox, the 2025 season's MVP, had a payday as well after being purchased for GBP 300,000 by Welsh Fire who also bought Joe Root for GBP 240,000. Root was the first player to be auctioned on the day and these two purchases meant Fire spent half their budget on just two players. Root's England teammate Adil Rashid went up to GBP 250,000 (to Southern Brave) whereas Tom Curran was reunited with his brother after MI London secured his services for GBP 260,000.

While David Miller became the first overseas player to be bought, with Southern Brave securing his services for GBP 110,000, his South African compatriot Aiden Markram was snapped up by Manchester Super Giants for GBP 200,000, the highest for an overseas player this time. It is worth noting that Markram also plays for the Super Giants group in the Indian Premier League and in the SA20 as well.

Another purchase that grabbed a lot of attention was Abrar Ahmed's move to Sunrisers Leeds for a massive GBP 190,000. The possibility of Indian-owned teams sidelining Pakistani players in the auction was a major talking point heading into it. However, Sunrisers picked Abrar as their top target in the spin department and came out on top following an intense bidding war with Trent Rockets. Prior to Abrar, Usman Tariq became the first player from Pakistan to be bought in the auctions with Birmingham Phoenix spending GBP 140,000.

While the likes of Finn Allen, Ryan Rickelton, Matt Henry, Sherfane Rutherford found teams, Sikandar Raza, Lungi Ngidi, Wanindu Hasaranga and Azmatullah Omarzai were among the high-profile overseas players to have missed out. New Zealand veteran Trent Boult was once again snapped up by a MI franchise - his fifth association with them.
