ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024

The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup is the ninth edition of the T20 Cricket World Cup, a biennial T20I (Twenty20 International) tournament organized by ICC (International Cricket Council) contesting men’s national cricket teams from across the world. It is scheduled to be co-hosted by the United States and West Indies from 1st to 29th of June 2024. T20 world cup 2024 will also be the first international World Cup to feature matches played in the United States and West Indies outside of America. The tournament format will be Twenty20 International, meaning each match will have 20 overs.

On Monday, 29 April, 2024, New Zealand was the first to announce their squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Additionally, they also launched their new kit for the tournament on the same day.

ICC T20 world cup 2024: Format

Teams:

• 20 qualified teams will compete

Group Stage:

• Teams are divided into four groups of five each.
• Each group plays a single round-robin format (every team plays each other once).
• Top two teams from each group advance to the Super 8 stage.

Group Stage:

• Eight qualifying teams are split into two groups of four each.
• Seeding from the group stage is carried over (e.g., Group A winner remains A1 in Super 8s).
• Teams play another round-robin format within their Super 8 group.
• Top two teams from each Super 8 group advance to the knockout stage.

Knockout Stage:

• Two semi-finals featuring the qualifiers from the Super 8 stage.
• Winner of each semi-final progresses to the final.
• Final match determines the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 champion.

Host selection

In November 2021, the ICC (International Cricket Council) announced that the Men's T20 World Cup 2024 would be played in the United States and the West Indies. A joint bid was submitted by USA Cricket and Cricket West Indies followed up with two years of preparation, forming a strategic partnership between the two associations.

In May 2023, CWI began the bidding process for hosting countries in the Caribbean region and USA willing to host the matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In November 2023, it was reported that Spain's most considerable cricket ground, Trinidad's Queen's Park Oval would not host any world cup tournaments and the fixtures be moved to the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, San Fernando.

T20 2024 World Cup Teams and Qualification

Qualification: The 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup will feature a record 20 teams. The top eight teams from 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the next two teams in the ICC Men's Twenty20 International Team Rankings, and eight teams determined by regional qualifiers will participate.

The 20 qualifying teams are divided into four groups of five teams, and the top two teams from each group will advance into the Super 8 round.

The remaining two automatic qualification places were taken by the best-ranked teams in the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings which had not already secured a place in the finals, as of 14 November 2022.

Regional Qualifiers:

• The ICC's regional qualifiers consisted of two teams from various continents like Europe, Africa, and Asia along with one team each from America and the East Asia-Pacific groups.

The top performing teams from each group will advance to the Super 8s, where they will compete against the top performing teams from other groups.

The Super 8s level will begin on June 19th, and the semi-finals are scheduled for June 26th and 27th, and the final of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 will take place on June 29th in Bridgetown, Barbados.
