The captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, played a huge role in helping India end their ICC trophy drought. His team beat South Africa in the final to lift the T20 World Cup in 2024. Since then, Rohit Sharma has been the apple of the nation. Fans have been showering their love on the Indian captain from every corner of the country.
However, he landed himself in hot water when he changed his profile picture on social media on July 8. Rohit has been accused of disrespecting the national flag by fans on social media, with many demanding an apology from the Indian skipper.
Rohit Sharma changed his profile picture to a moment where he is seen planting the Indian flag at Kensington Oval in Barbados. In the picture, the tricolor was seen touching the ground, which has drawn the ire of Indian fans.
Some even compared his act with a gesture from MS Dhoni during his playing days. Here’s what the social media users said about Rohit’s new profile picture: One of the fans wrote, If someone had done this in India, people would have screamed about disrespecting the home soil. This was over-the-top and unnecessary. Many Indians cried about Marsh and the cup.” Another user wrote, “Flag Code of India, Part III, Section IV, 3.20... The flag shall not be allowed to touch the ground, the floor, or a trail in  water." It comes under incorrect display... Please, @ImRo45, don’t disrespect the Indian flag! I tweeted this the same day we won, but deleted the tweet,” and so on.
