Sri Lanka’s cricket team faced a historic collapse, bowled out for just 42 runs, marking their lowest total in Test history during the first Test against South Africa in Durban on Thursday. Fast bowler Marco Jansen was the standout performer, achieving career-best figures of 7 for 13, while Gerald Coetzee contributed with two wickets and KagisoRabada secured the first wicket of DimuthKarunaratne.
Sri Lanka’s innings lasted only 13.5 overs, making it the second-shortest completed innings in Test cricket. Only KaminduMendis and Lahiru Kumara reached double figures, as five batters failed to score.
In contrast, South Africa scored 191 runs in their innings, with Temba Bavuma top-scoring at 70. The previous record low for Sri Lanka was 71 runs against Pakistan in 1994.
