Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins’ future in IPL 2025 has come under scrutiny amid a string of disappointing results and fresh speculation about his availability. On Friday, Cummins’ wife Becky posted Instagram stories suggesting she was leaving India, with captions like “Goodbye India. We have loved visiting this beautiful country,” and a reference to Cummins “overpacking.” However, it remains unclear whether Cummins is also departing or simply seeing his family off.
SRH, runners-up in IPL 2024, have struggled this season, winning just two of their seven matches—both at home in Hyderabad. The team remains winless in away fixtures and currently sits near the bottom of the table. Cummins, who was retained for a hefty sum after leading SRH to last year’s final, has faced criticism for his own form. In six games, he has managed just four wickets at an average of 56.5 and an economy rate of nearly 11, contributing to the team’s bowling woes.
If Cummins is forced to miss matches due to personal reasons or injury—he has reportedly been dealing with back pain—SRH will need to appoint a stand-in captain. Heinrich Klaasen, with international leadership experience, and Travis Head are leading candidates. SRH’s next game is a crucial home fixture against Mumbai Indians on April 23, where the team will look to reverse its fortunes and clarify Cummins’ status.
