Ranji Trophy: Dubey, Siraj lead from the front for Vidarbha, Hyderabad

Best batting performances

Gujarat captain Manan Hingrajia batted time in Agartala as his team finished the opening day of their Ranji Trophy fixture against Tripura at 267 for 7. He went to Stumps two short of a century, having batted out 255 balls for his effort. He forged two key partnerships - 132 with Jaymeet Patel (69 off 120) and 94 with Piyush Patel (52 off 76) for the fourth and sixth wicket respectively.

Prateek Yadav (106 off 99) and Vikalp Tiwari (94 off 143) pushed Chhattisgarhwith their counter-attacking efforts but the team was bowled out for 283. More on how that transpired, below.

Uttarakhand were buoyed by solid top-order performances, led ably by captain Kunal Chandela, who scored an unbeaten 128 off 182- a knock including 10 fours and four sixes.

Punjab trio of Abhijeet Garg (81 off 133), Uday Saharan (44 off 72) and Emanjot Singh Chahal (77* off 134) powered their side to 303 for 9 at Stumps on Day 1 against Karnataka in Mohali. Wickets fell regularly but these three batters did well to arrest the slide for a sustained period of time to push the score beyond the 300-run mark.

Chetan Bisht smashed 23 fours in his unbeaten knock of 160 as he rescued Nagaland from a dire situation of 59 for 4 to push back against Andhra. He and Dega Nischal added 167 runs for the fifth wicket after which he combined forces with Nagaho Chishi for an undefeated 83-run stand. With that, Nagaland ended the day on 322 for 6.

Services opener Anshul Gupta scored a racy century(101 off 131 with 10 fours and 4 sixes) before retiring hurt on the opening day of the game against Railways. On a day where only 55 overs were possible, Services rode on the efforts of Anshul to finish at 174 for 3.

Best bowling performances

Vidarbha captain Harsh Dubey led from the front with a stifling six-wicket haul as Uttar Pradesh folded for 237 on Day 1 in Nagpur.

Despite two strong middle-order efforts for Chattisgarh, they were bundled out on the opening day against Hyderabad in Hyderabad after Mohammed Siraj returned a four-wicket haul.

Mumbai pacer Mohit Avasthi ran riot against Delhi at home as the visitors folded for 221 despite a century from opener Sanat Sangram. Avasthi finished with figures of 5-62.

Puducherry's off-break bowler Karan Kannan spun a web around Rajasthan at home as they folded for just 168.Kannan finished with figures of 5-37.

Jaydev Unadkat spearheaded Saurashtra's flying start to their Ranji fixture against Chandigarh where they were bundled out for 136. Unadkat bagged four wickets while Chetan Sakariya and Chirag Jani picked two each.

J&K's left-arm quick Sunil Kumar picked 5 for 55 as Himachal Pradesh were bowled out for just 168. Auqib Nabi and Sahil Lotra flanked Sunil with two wickets each.

Kerala's left-arm spinner Ankit Sharma returned 4-82 to keep Goa in check on Day 1 in Porvorim, as they finished the day on 232 for 6. Two of Ankit's scalps were the big wickets of opener Suyash Prabhudessai (86 off 172) and Yash Kasvankar (50 off 97).

Maharashtra fast bowler Rajvardhan Hangargekar also bagged five wickets, against Madhya Pradesh in Indore. He, Arshin Kulkarni (2-31) and Jalaj Saxena (2-32) did not let any batter settle in for a big score as they folded for just 187.

Tamil Nadu's 2008-born off-spinner Jeganathan Hemchudeshan was among the wickets, picking 3 for 72 on the opening day of the fixture against Baroda. The 17-year-old dismissed Baroda's top-three, while R Sai Kishore accounted for two more wickets.
