The star player of the Nepal cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, a figure shrouded in controversy, will be joining his team’s T20 World Cup campaign in the West Indies. This comes after visa complications prevented him from playing in the initial matches held in the United States of America.
Sandeep Lamichhane is a very talented spin bowler who was initially selected for the World Cup despite facing legal troubles. He was accused of rape in 2022, but the conviction was overturned last month.
However, his attempt to secure a US visa was denied twice, forcing him to miss Nepal’s opening matches.
In a statement on Monday, the Cricket Association of Nepal confirmed the inclusion of Sandeep Lamichhane. The 23-year-old expressed his excitement on social media, stating, “I am now joining the national team for the last two matches in the West Indies and looking forward to fulfilling my dreams and the dreams of all cricket lovers.”
He was once considered the cricket prodigy of Nepal. However, the rape allegations and subsequent legal battle tarnished his image. While the charges have been dropped, his inclusion on the team remains a contentious topic.
