Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined INR 12 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 19, 2025. This was GT’s first over-rate offence of the season, and the penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations.

Despite the fine, GT secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals, successfully chasing down a target of 204 with four balls to spare. Jos Buttler played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 97 runs off 54 balls, overcoming cramps to anchor the chase. Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler for GT, taking 4 wickets for 41 runs and helping restrict Delhi to 203/8.

This win propelled Gujarat Titans to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points from seven matches, while Delhi Capitals remained second, separated only by net run rate. GT will next face defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, a team that is also Shubman Gill’s former IPL franchise.

Gill joins other IPL captains fined this season for slow over-rates, including Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant. The fine serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining the required over-rate in the fast-paced IPL format.
