New Zealand has announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, with their opening match against hosts Pakistan scheduled for February 19. This tournament marks the first major ICC event under the leadership of new white-ball captain Mitchell Santner, following a successful home series against Sri Lanka.
The squad features a mix of youth and experience, including pace bowlers Will O’Rourke, Ben Sears, and Nathan Smith, who are set to make their debuts at a senior ICC event. Santner will lead the spin department, supported by all-rounders Michael Bracewell, Glenn Phillips, and RachinRavindra. Senior players Kane Williamson and Tom Latham bring valuable experience, with Latham taking on the wicketkeeping duties.
Matt Henry will spearhead the pace attack alongside veteran Lockie Ferguson, who is set to participate in his fifth ICC tournament. Jacob Duffy has been named as a reserve player in case Ferguson is unavailable due to franchise commitments.
The squad has been praised for its depth and balance, with head coach Gary Stead emphasizing the importance of hitting the ground running in this unique tournament format. New Zealand is grouped with Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, making their opening match against Pakistan particularly significant as they aim for success in this prestigious competition.
