Former West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo has expressed strong dissatisfaction over Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) decision to replace Rovman Powell as the T20I captain with Shai Hope. Powell, who led the team since May 2023, guided the Windies to 19 wins in 37 matches, achieving a respectable win rate of 51.35%. Under Powell’s leadership, the West Indies rose from 9th to 3rd in the ICC T20I rankings, a significant improvement that Bravo highlighted in his criticism of the move.

Taking to Instagram, Bravo called Powell’s removal “one of the worst decisions ever” and accused CWI of mistreating players. He praised Powell’s achievements as captain and questioned why such progress was not rewarded. “The bad treatment towards players—when will it stop?” Bravo wrote.

Meanwhile, Shai Hope’s appointment as skipper has been defended by coach Daren Sammy, who emphasized Hope’s analytical approach and success with the ODI team over the past 18 months. Sammy described Hope as a leader who blends instinctive decision-making with data-driven strategies, signaling a “progressive shift” for West Indies cricket.

The decision has sparked debate among fans and former players, with Bravo’s remarks highlighting concerns about player management within West Indies cricket.
