Virat Kohli has advocated for the presence of families on Team India’s tours, emphasizing the balance and normalcy they bring, especially during challenging times. His remarks follow the BCCI’s new policy limiting family time on tours after India’s 3-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat to Australia. The guidelines permit families to join players for 14 days after the first two weeks of tours exceeding 45 days, while shorter tours allow a week-long family stay.

While speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit ahead of IPL 2025, Kohli highlighted how returning to family after intense matches provides grounding and normalcy. He expressed disappointment over perceptions that families add distractions, stating that players need emotional support rather than isolation after poor performances.

Kohli also reflected on his role in India’s recent ICC Champions Trophy victory, where he was the team’s second-highest scorer with 218 runs in five matches, including a match-winning century against Pakistan. As he gears up for IPL 2025 with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli aims to lead his team to their maiden title. Last season, he won the Orange Cap with 741 runs at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69, helping RCB recover from a poor start to reach the playoffs.
