Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood will miss the second Ashes Test in Brisbane starting on Thursday (December 4) after Australia named an unchanged squad for the Day-Night Test at the Gabba. The two fast bowlers were seen training in the nets in Sydney during the week but have not been declared fit to feature in the Test which means that Steve Smith will continue to captain the side.
Just like in Perth, Cummins will continue to be with the side in Brisbane during the Test and will continue his preparations there.
Australia Squad: Steve Smith (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster
Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja has been retained in the squad despite his back strain and having scored only one run in the first innings in Perth. He did not bat in the second innings after an awkward fall while trying to take a catch aggravated the injury. This led to the promotion of Travis Head to the top of the order who scored a masterful 123 off 83 as the hosts chased 205 in a single session on Day 2. However, it remains to be seen if Australia could drop Khawaja and promote Head to the top of the order and include all-rounder Beau Webster at No. 6.
Australia have a 1-0 lead in the five-match series with four Tests left to play. The squad will assemble in Brisbane on Sunday (November 30).
