The Mumbai Indians (MI), five-time IPL champions, have signed Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman to replace the injured Allah Ghazanfar for the 2025 season. Ghazanfar, an 18-year-old off-spinner, sustained a fracture in his L4 vertebra during Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe, which will sideline him for at least four months and also cause him to miss the Champions Trophy.. MI had acquired Ghazanfar for Rs 4.80 crore in the IPL mega auction.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman, a right-arm off-spinner, joins MI for Rs 2 crore. MI expressed their well wishes for Ghazanfar’s recovery and welcomed Mujeeb to the #OneFamily. Mujeeb, who made his IPL debut at 17, was one of the youngest players to represent Afghanistan.

Mujeeb, 23, has played 256 T20Is, securing 275 wickets at an economy of 6.75. Overall, he has participated in over 300 T20 matches (international and domestic), taking approximately 330 wickets with an economy of around 6.5. Mujeeb recently played in the SA20 2025 and the three T20Is against Zimbabwe. He has played 19 IPL matches and has claimed 19 wickets.
