Daren Sammy has been appointed as the head coach of the West Indies men’s national cricket team across all formats, effective April 1, 2025. The former all-rounder, who previously served as the white-ball head coach starting in 2023, led the team to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024, where they were narrowly defeated by South Africa.

Sammy will replace Andre Coley as the Test coach, marking a significant step in his coaching career. The announcement was made by Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe during a quarterly press conference. Under Sammy’s leadership, the West Indies aims to rebuild and strengthen its cricketing prowess after facing challenges in recent years.

Sammy is celebrated for his previous success as captain, leading the West Indies to two T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016. His appointment across all formats reflects the board’s confidence in his ability to unify and inspire the team. As he prepares to take on this comprehensive role, Sammy’s experience and leadership will be pivotal in navigating the challenges ahead for West Indies cricket.
