New Zealand Cricket Players News

In the subcontinent, cricket may be the most popular sport, but this is not the case in many other nations. The tendency is altering in New Zealand, though, and cricket is typically the third-most-watched sport in New Zealand, behind rugby and netball.

Martin Guptill

The most experienced player on the New Zealand cricket squad, Martin Guptil, will play a significant role in his side's batting order during the forthcoming T20 World Cup. He leads men's T20I run scorers among his teammates and has been in excellent form.

He is the most successful T20I batsman from New Zealand, having amassed 3497 runs in his 117 career T20I innings. Given his excellent consistency, the right-hander has been an enormous asset to his side while opening the batting. His strike rate of 135.81 is sufficient to give his team solid starts in most games.

Kane Williamson

In the tri-series that included Pakistan and Bangladesh, Kane Williamson, a New Zealand cricketer, averaged 43 in 4 Twenty20 internationals, scoring 129 runs per game. The 2021 T20I World Cup final was the first time the New Zealand captain lifted his bat since that match; he has since played 16 international innings without scoring 50 runs.

The Black Caps' prospects of surpassing last year, when their skipper's outstanding performance wasn't quite enough to defeat Australia, would have been significantly hindered by that lack of form, which coincided with Kane Williamson's problematic elbow injury.

But after scoring 59 runs off 38 balls to set up what would have been a game-winning position in the tri-series championship game, Kane Williamson will now cross the Tasman with much greater optimism about replicating similar accomplishments. Instead, when Kane Williamson was out, New Zealand scored only 29 runs from the next 25 pitches, slipping to a dismal 163-7.

Daryl Mitchell

Daryl Mitchell, a New Zealand cricketer, missed the current home tri-series against Pakistan and Bangladesh after breaking his right little finger last week. All-rounder Daryl Mitchell will remain in the New Zealand team for the T20I World Cup in Australia and may be able to make a full recovery in time for the Black Caps' opening match against the hosts on October 22.

Daryl Mitchell gained notoriety when he helped New Zealand defeat England in the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-finals with an undefeated 72. He has since established himself as a vital member of the New Zealand squad across all sports. This summer's Test series in England saw him score the most with 538 runs and three centuries in six innings.

Tim Southee

In the tri-series final in Christchurch on Friday, Blackcaps seamer Tim Southee, now 33 and more than 14 years removed from his international debut as a 19-year-old, became just the third New Zealander to play in 100 T20s, joining Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor.

By taking eight wickets in 5 T20Is at an average of 19.75, he and Michael Bracewell were the Tri-Series' top wicket-takers. With Shakib Al Hasan, he has 122 T20I wickets, which is the most in the league.

Ish Sodhi

In the just-finished tri-series, Ish Sodhi, another name on the New Zealand T20 Squad, took 4 victims in 5 T20Is. However, his average was 44. Ish Sodhi, a seasoned New Zealand leg-spinner, has taken 100 T20I wickets. In the third game of the ongoing tri-series, including Pakistan, he accomplished the feat against Bangladesh. Ish Sodhi completed 100 T20I wickets, making him the second New Zealander and fifth bowler overall. With 78 matches, he reached the milestone for the third-fastest time.

He is ahead of Rashid Khan (53), Lasith Malinga (76), and others. The third spinner to reach the milestone is Ish Sodhi. Tim Southee and Shakib Al Hasan are second with 122 kills each, followed by Rashid Khan with 118 and Lasith Malinga with 107. Ish Sodhi is third with 103 kills through 81 T20 Internationals.
