The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the introduction of a player contract system, aimed at providing a structured framework and financial security for cricketers within its set-up. The contracts have been extended to both the men's and women's teams.

According to a release from the MCA, the initiative will see eligible players offered contracts based on performance, fitness benchmarks and recommendations from the selection committee. The system is intended to support players on the verge of progressing to higher levels, while ensuring stability at the domestic stage.

Under the proposed structure, players will be divided into three grades. Grade A contracts will range from INR 12 lakh to INR 20 lakh per annum, Grade B from INR 8 lakh to INR 12 lakh, while Grade C players will receive INR 8 lakh annually. In addition to the retainers, contracted players will also be entitled to match fees, daily allowances and performance-based incentives, as per MCA policies.

The release outlined that the system's key objectives include providing financial stability, establishing a professional environment, encouraging consistency and fitness standards, and creating a pathway for progression to higher levels of the game.

"This initiative marks a new era for Mumbai cricket. We are proud to be the first association to implement a player contract system - a progressive step that will provide greater security, structure, and growth opportunities for our Mumbai players," said Ajinkya Naik, President of the MCA.
