Chennai Super Kings have suffered yet another injury blow, with English all-rounder Jamie Overton returning home having sustained a right thigh injury. The development was confirmed by the franchise on their social media handles on Wednesday (May 13), two days out of their fixture against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow.
The franchise stated that Overton will be returning to the UK for "further assessment and management" and haven't officially ruled him out of the remainder of IPL 2026.
Overton bagged the Player of the Match award in CSK's most recent outing against LSG at home, picking up three wickets after the visitors raced to 91/1 in the Powerplay. His efforts helped the Super Kings restrict LSG to 203, before they chased it down in the final over.
Overton has featured in 10 games this season, picking up 14 wickets at an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89, besides scoring 136 runs at a strike-rate of 158.13.
Despite CSK turning their campaign around after three successive defeats at the start, their season has been ridden with injuries. The five-time champions signed Karnataka's Macneil Noronha as a replacement for Ramakrishna Ghosh, with the announcement made official a day after Cricbuzz reported the development.
With no like-for-like all-rounder in the squad as backup, CSK could now be forced into a rejig with their overseas combination, potentially bringing Australian quick Spencer Johnson into the equation. That aside, their talisman MS Dhoni is yet to feature in a game and has not traveled to Lucknow with the rest of the CSK squad for their May 15 fixture.
CSK are currently placed fifth on the points table with 12 points from 11 games and in control of their playoffs fate.
