Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the captain of Mumbai’s 17-member squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scheduled from November 23 to December 15. The squad includes seasoned players like Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, and Siddhesh Lad, all of whom have been in good form. Rahane has led Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, while Lad has contributed consistently with the bat.
Iyer’s appointment comes on the back of a stellar Ranji Trophy season, where he amassed 452 runs at an impressive average of 90.40, including two centuries. He played a pivotal role in Mumbai’s recent successes, scoring a blistering 233 against Odisha and following it up with a 142 against Maharashtra, guiding the team to consecutive victories.
A key highlight of the squad is the inclusion of Prithvi Shaw, who returns to the team after being dropped from the Ranji Trophy side due to fitness and discipline issues. His comeback is seen as an opportunity to regain form.
Also in the squad is spin-bowling all-rounder Tanush Kotian, fresh from his stint with India A in Australia, and veteran all-rounder Shardul Thakur, adding depth and balance to the team. Mumbai will look to make a strong impression in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy under Iyer’s leadership.
