Hridoy hopes for a fresh start in T20Is after disappointing tour

Bangladesh interim T20I skipper Towhid Hridoy said on Tuesday that they are eyeing a fresh start putting behind a disappointing Zimbabwe tour so far as they prepare to take on the hosts in the three-match T20I series at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, that begins on July 15.

Bangladesh landed in Bulawayo after suffering a frustrating campaign in Harare, where they lost the one-off Test by an innings and 85 runs before going down 2-1 in the One Day International series.

The tourists avoided a clean sweep with a convincing victory in the final match and would be keen to carry forward the momentum in the T20I leg of the tour. Towhid Hridoy, who made his captaincy debut against Australia, will continue to lead the side as they will again be without regular T20I captain Litton Das, who has been granted leave to play in the Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Litton, who is unlikely to be part of LPL, is still recovering from a calf injury that ruled him out of the home T20I series against Australia and subsequently he also missed the ongoing Zimbabwe tour. Along with Litton, left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman remains unavailable for the T20Is after suffering a hamstring injury during the first ODI in Harare.

Towhid seemed optimistic with the new format and is hopeful of Bangladesh turning the tide. "Well look, there are two sides of the game-either we lose or we win, but it's a different format and a different venue so if we play good cricket then hopefully we will get (our desired) result," Towhid said ahead of the series opener in Harare."In home conditions, Zimbabwe is a good team. There is a little bit of challenge here and there but we know our strength so hopefully we will bounce back from the mistakes. We have a strong side. In the last few series, we played really good cricket, so if we maintain this tempo then obviously we will get the results.

"We will try to take the momentum early. You know it is a shorter format and a different ball game."

Towhid also reiterated that Bangladesh will be taking things one game at a time. "Everything has a process. It will be wise to think about one match at a time. As we have a match tomorrow, I want to focus on that," said the skipper, adding that they need to adapt with the conditions as well.

"Conditions are very different here. The weather is a little bit cold here. Considering the wicket and opposition, everything makes it a different kind of condition. But as a professional player, adapting to it will be important," he added.

The second and third game of the series is scheduled at the same venue respectively on July 17 and 19.
