The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to take a cautious approach regarding Mohammed Shami’s potential inclusion in the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against Australia. Initially, there were plans to fly Shami to Australia for the second Test in Adelaide, but recent developments indicate a shift in strategy. The BCCI medical team had previously set a 10-day countdown for Shami’s recovery, but they now prefer he regains fitness at a natural pace before returning to international cricket.

Shami made his comeback in domestic cricket, playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and performing well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, with major tournaments like the ICC Champions Trophy on the horizon, the BCCI is unwilling to rush his return. A source from the board stated, “There has been no conversation around trying to send Shami to Australia, at least for now.” The fast bowlers currently selected for the tour are performing well, allowing the BCCI to prioritize Shami’s long-term fitness over immediate participation.

As of now, it appears that Shami will not travel to Australia and will instead focus on regaining full fitness before rejoining the national team.
