FC Barcelona Star Gerard Pique Announces Retirement

FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique of Barcelona has announced his retirement from competitive football at 35. On Saturday, he would play his final game, as Barca hosts Almeria in La Liga. In a heartfelt video on his social media on Thursday, the 35-year-old Piqué said "it is the moment to end this stage of my life" after a legendary career at both club and international level. There's no other team after Barca," he added. "I'm going to become a super fan, I'll be supporting the team and pass on my love for Barca to my son. And sooner or later, I'll be back," he concluded. While, the player has a contract with Barcelona until 2024 but he will renounce the remaining year and half his salary, La Vanguardia newspaper reported. Pique won nine league titles in Spain and England, four Champions League trophies, as well as a World Cup and European Championship. Pique has said he would like to be Barcelona’s president one day. In his farewell video, while looking at the board’s Camp Nou seats, he said: Sooner or later, I’ll be back.
