Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has urged the selectors to include mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy in the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Karthik emphasized that not selecting Chakravarthy would be a “grave error,” given his impressive form with the ball.
Chakravarthy has been a key figure in the Indian bowling attack since his return during the recent T20I series against Bangladesh. After a long absence from international cricket since the 2021 T20 World Cup, he made a strong comeback, finishing as the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024 with 21 wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders. His performances in T20Is have also been noteworthy, as he has taken 13 wickets in five matches this year.
In the second T20I against South Africa, Chakravarthy showcased his skills with a five-wicket haul, further solidifying his place in discussions for the Champions Trophy. Karthik took to X (formerly Twitter) to advocate for Chakravarthy’s inclusion, stating, “If India don’t pick Varun Chakravarthy for the Champions Trophy, then they are making a grave error. Outstanding bowler he is turning out to be.
