The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Wednesday that it has requested the associations, clubs and other organisations to submit the names of their councillors by May 16.

Former national captain Tamim Iqbal is currently serving as the interim head of the board after the National Sports Council dissolved the Aminul Islam-led body on charges of misuse of power. The interim administration has been entrusted with conducting the next BCB election within 30 days.

On April 4, the BCB announced that it had started the election process by approving the formation of a three-member Election Commission to conduct the next BCB election. On Wednesday, following the fourth meeting of the BCB ad-hoc committee, the board also confirmed that it had finalized the list of associations, clubs, and organisations from which the names of 192 councillors will be invited across three categories.

"The Board finalized the list of Associations, Clubs, and Organizations from which the names of 192 Councillors will be invited under three categories, pursuant to Article 12.7 of the BCB Constitution," BCB said in a statement following the meeting at BCB headquarter.

"The BCB will issue letters to the respective Associations, Clubs and Organizations requesting nomination of their councillors, to be submitted by 16 May 2026," it added.

These 191 councillors will be tasked with electing a total of 25 directors to the board.

Distribution of seats

The 25-member board will be structured as follows: 12 directors elected by Dhaka club councillors (Category 2), 10 directors elected by regional and district councillors (Category 1), one director representing other organizations such as public universities and former cricketers (Category 3), and two directors nominated by the National Sports Council.

The BCB president will be elected by the 25 directors chosen by the 191 councillors to represent them on the board across the respective categories.

District coach applicants to undergo assessment process

Meanwhile, the BCB also announced that it has decided to form a committee to assess applicants for the 64 district coach positions following the expiry of the current coaches' contracts.

"The assessment will comprise both theoretical and practical components," BCB said in a statement.

The board also confirmed that the contracts of umpires and match referees have been extended by three months after expiring on April 30.
