Aminul Haque, Bangladesh state minister for youth and sports, said on Monday that they are hoping the deadlock around India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh in September is resolved soon.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is keeping their fingers crossed regarding the future of the series due to political tension between the two countries.

Ever since ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and some members of her party were allowed to host a virtual press conference in Delhi on August 5, there was a feeling floating around that suggested both countries were not ready to sit across the table. Animul, however, begs to differ while talking to Cricbuzz on the sidelines of a football match at Dhaka on Monday (August 10).

“No no no... I don't think so (that our relationship is strained due to that press conference). I think sports means sports, and through sports a good relationship is created with all our neighboring countries,” Aminul told this website, following Hasina's August 5 presser.

Aminul said he had already spoken with the Foreign Minister regarding the uncertainty surrounding India’s tour of Bangladesh slated later this year.

"It is being worked on at the ministerial level. I have already spoken to the Foreign Minister today (Monday) and they are also talking to the Indian Foreign Minister," he said.

"We want to quickly resolve the deadlock that was created around the World Cup. Inshallah, we are hopeful that it will be resolved very soon,” he said.

"We strongly want to maintain the cordiality and friendly relationship between Bangladesh and India, including the cricket series between the two countries. We hope that this matter will be resolved very soon,” he added.

Earlier in the day, the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh - Dinesh Trivedi - met Bangladesh Prime Minister Tareque Rahman, which would have come as a sigh of relief to BCB.

“The Indian High Commissioner met the Honorable Prime Minister. I have also spoken to the Foreign Minister and the Minister of State. They are very hopeful that the tension that arose over the last World Cup will be resolved soon. There have already been talks between the Foreign Ministries of Bangladesh and India. We are hopeful that Inshallah, this problem will be resolved,” he concluded.
