Former India cricket team chief selector MSK Prasad expressed concerns over the inclusion of Andhra Pradesh all-rounder Nitish Reddy for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Prasad questioned Reddy’s lack of experience in red-ball cricket, suggesting that he might not be fully prepared for the high-intensity Test series. While Reddy was selected for his ability to serve as a back-up pacer and batter, Prasad emphasized that he does not possess the same bowling pace as Hardik Pandya, who can regularly deliver 140+ kmph balls.

While speaking Prasad acknowledged Reddy’s potential as a bowler but pointed out that his pace ranges between 125-130 kmph, and highlighted his limited exposure to red-ball cricket. Prasad is hopeful that Reddy will make the most of his opportunities in the India A matches scheduled in Australia ahead of the senior Test series. Despite his concerns, Prasad recognized Reddy’s recent domestic performances, where he picked up around 25 wickets over the last few seasons.

Reddy, already preparing for the Australia tour, was part of the Ranji Trophy squad and will feature in India A’s games under RuturajGaikwad’s leadership before the senior team’s campaign begins on November 22.
