During their IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, the captain of Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant, was slapped with a huge fine of Rs 12 lakh after his team was found guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct. The defending champions faced their first defeat of this season under newly appointed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, following back-to-back victories at home, while Rishabh Pant led Delhi to their first win in 2024 after back-to-back losses away from home.

Pant got fined during their match against CSK after his team maintained a slow overrate. As it was the first offense of his team in the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Pant was fined ?12 lakhs.

This was the second time a team captain was fined after an IPL side maintained a slow overrate during the match. The captain of the Gujarat Titans' Shubman Gill incurred a similar fate, as he was also charged with a fine of INR 12 lakh for the same offense during the IPL 2024 match against the Chennai Super Kings at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last Tuesday.

However, Rishabh Pant made a notable performance with the bat, scoring his first half century in the IPL after having missed the entire 2023 edition of the tournament because of his recovery from the car accident he faced in December 2022. Following a brilliant 93-run stand between Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, where the Aussie reached his mark of half-century, Pant carried the momentum forward with his 32-ball 51 as the Delhi Capitals had set a target of 192 runs against their opponents.

While the top-order of Chennai wobbled, Ajinkya Rahane led the charge in the middle order with his 30-ball 45 before the legend of the Indian cricket team and captain cool MS Dhoni turned back the clock with a vintage show as he smashed four boundaries and three sixes in his unbeaten 37 off 16. However, the impressive comeback from the bowlers of the Delhi Capitals in the death overs saw CSK restricted to 171 runs for six as the Capitals won the match by 20 runs.

It was the first victory of the Delhi Capitals in this season after they faced losses against the Punjab Kings in their season opener match and then in their second match against the Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, CSK faced their first defeat of the season after dominating in Chepauk, where they won their first two matches against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans.
