Cameron Green is set to start as a pure batter in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, beginning on November 22, 2024. Following a back injury sustained during the third ODI against England, Green had initially faced uncertainty regarding his participation. However, reports indicate he will be available to play as a batter from the outset of the series, with a possibility of returning to bowling later.

Cricket Australia is expected to provide further details on the nature of Green’s injury soon. He has already been ruled out of the first two rounds of the Sheffield Shield but may feature for Australia A against India A in early November. Former Australian team doctor Peter Brukner noted that while Green’s back injury would limit his bowling, it shouldn’t prevent him from batting or fielding effectively once initial pain subsides.

Green’s role as a top-order batsman is crucial for Australia, especially after David Warner’s retirement. His ability to contribute significantly with the bat will be vital as Australia looks to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2014-15, following India’s dominance in recent series.
