The Indian pacer, Mohammed Siraj is all set for his maiden county stint as he has joined Warwickshire for their last three matches in September.

From the latest cricket news, it has been reported on August 18 that Warwickshire has called up Mohammed Siraj to play the matches towards the end of the County season. Currently, Siraj is engaged in Zimbabwe One Day Internationals (ODI) series which has been started on August 18 to 22.

On September 12, 2022, Warwickshire would play their next county fixture at Edgbaston against Somerset. Siraj said to reporters, ‘I can’t wait to join up with the Bears squad. I have always enjoyed playing in England with India and I’m excited to experience County Cricket. “Edgbaston is a world-class stadium and the atmosphere it created this year for the Test was special. I’m really looking forward to making it my home in September and hopefully helping the Bears end the season well. I would like to extend my gratitude to both Warwickshire County Cricket Club and BCCI for this opportunity.’

On Siraj’s inclusion in the County season, Warwickshire director of cricket Paul Farbrace said, ‘Siraj is a fantastic addition to the squad and we can’t wait to welcome him to Warwickshire. He is one of the best fast bowlers in the world right now and his knowledge and experience will help bring an added dimension to our line-up. It’s been clear that we needed to strengthen our bowling attack for the crucial run-in period and I’m excited to see what Siraj can do in these three games.’

Glimpses of Siraj’s Achievements

  • After the inclusion of Siraj in the last three ODI matches, Siraj will be the 6th Indian player to get featured in the English domestic season, playing for Sussex. From the Indian roots, Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini are contributing to Middlesex and Kent respectively.
  • Playing in the ODI format, Siraj will become the 2nd player of the Indian squad to represent Warwickshire in the coming season and Krunal Pandya will accompany him for the 50-over squad.
  • The 28-year-old young lad, Siraj has appeared in 52 first-class matches, taking 194 wickets that include 5 wicket hauls and 2 ten-wicket hauls. He made his last Test appearance in Birmingham in the 5th Test against England which was postponed. In the first innings of the match, Siraj bagged an impressive 4-wicket haul. The host won the match by 7 wickets to draw the series by 2-2.

Currently, Warwickshire holds 8th place in the County Championship Division One table, securing only victory in a total of 11 matches. It would be interesting to watch what Siraj’s appearance brings value in the last matches of the County season.
