Bangladesh Premier League 2nd Match: Rangpur Riders Won the Match by 34 Runs Against Comilla Victorians

It’s the second match of Bangladesh Premier League 2023 that was played between Comilla Victorians and Rangpur Riders on Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Comilla Victorians won the toss and opt to bowl. Naim and Rony Talukdar came at crease to open the batting attack while Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled the first over.

Both openers cleared their intentions and looked promising today as in the powerplay, Rangpur Riders scored 64 without losing a wicket. Rony Talukdar completed the fastest fifty by any Bangladeshi player in BPL while hitting 4 consecutive fours in the 6th over. Rony 67 (31) kept scoring for RGR but in 9th over, he got stumped while attempting a lofty shot to Khushdil. After 10 overs, RGR scored 91-1. Soon, Naim succumbed to Farooqi at 29 in 34 balls in the 13th over. After both the openers got dismissed, Raza and Shoaib Malik took command of the batting unit and brought the score to 134-2 in 15 overs. However, Hossain got a breakthrough as he dismissed Raza 12 (10) on the second ball of the 16th over. In the middle of the overs, the Victorians applied the brakes. In the last over, Shoaib Malik was able to rotate the strike and skipper Nurul Hasan appeared to be in fine form, but the former was run out and the latter was unable to face a ball.

In 20 overs, RGR put 176-5 and set a target of 177 for CV.

In the run chase, Shykat Ali and Litton Das came at the crease. Shykat Ali took the strike. Robiul Haque bowled the first over. Both openers tried to give a solid foundation to the CV’s innings but Litton Das was sent to pavilion by Hasan at 10 off 12 balls. In Powerplay, CV lost 2 wickets while putting 51 runs on the scoreboard. Soon, they were accompanied by Ali in the 8th over as he was dismissed by Raza at 16 off 21 balls. After 10 overs, CV could only put 72 runs losing 3 wickets. Kayes was trying to bring the game back to CV but Azmatullah prevailed after dismissing him at 35 (23). Things got serious for CV as they kept losing wickets in almost every over. The Rangpur bowlers deserve praise for rarely providing any freebies. They used six bowlers, and all of them were successful in taking wickets as they successfully held on to 176 runs.

CV got all out at 142 in 19.1 overs and lost the match by 34 runs.
