Pakistan vs NZ Test: Sarfraz’s Century Saved Pakistan from Another Home Series Loss

Pakistan managed to hold on to a draw thanks to a valiant 118 by Sarfaraz Ahmed, his first Test century in eight years. Without winning a Test at home, Babar Azam’s team finished the 2021–2023 World Test Championship cycle.

To win, New Zealand needs a wicket. To win, Pakistan needed 15 runs. There were 3 overs left in the day’s play. It was a nervous climax to the second Test, but both teams shook hands as poor lighting forced an early end. At the end of 90 overs, Pakistan had 304 for 9 after being given light.

After losing 3-0 to England in a Test series in November-December of last year, Pakistan will gain some confidence from the way they fought against New Zealand in the two matches played in Karachi.

Pakistan got the post-Tea session started quickly, signalling their willingness to go for the win under Sarfaraz’s leadership. But as New Zealand fought back and attempted to steal the game in the closing hour, Sarfaraz began dropping partners in short sessions.

The Karachi crowd was on edge when Sarfaraz edged one to leg-slip with 6.3 overs left in the day’s play. But Abrar and Naseem saw to it that Pakistan did not lose yet another home series.

Sarfaraz was the star of the series for Pakistan as the comeback man hit 335 runs in 2 Tests, which includes 3 fifties and a hundred. Sarfaraz returned to the Test XI for the first time in close to 3 years for the Boxing Day Test and shone with 2 fifties. It was his grit and determination that helped Pakistan salvage a draw in the 2nd Test.
