The final of Super Smash 2023 was played between Canterbury and Northern Knights at Hagley Oval Christchurch. The toss favoured Canterbury who went on to choose to bat first. Bowes and McClure came to open the batting while Wagner opened the bowling attack. Tim Pringle conceived 13 runs in his first over as Bowes punished him with 2 sixes. McClure got caught out at 2 (6) in the third over. Soon, Bowes holed out to Wagner at 17 (10). In the powerplay, CNTBRY scored 45-2. They needed a stable partnership that can pace up the run rate. McConchie and Leo Carter tried to build a stand and helped their side to put 75-2 in 10 overs. Leo Carter got dismissed after the drinks at 37 (36). In 15 overs, the CNTBRY put 110-4 and from here, they tried to pace up their scoreboard. Soon, Santner clean bowled Cam Fletcher. The excellent death bowling from Knights restricted CNTBRY to 154-6.
The pitch was good to bat on and it was expected that CNTBRY would score above 170. However, the Knights showed a better intent with the ball.
In the run chase, Kristian and Seifert came at the crease while ORourke opened the bowling attack. The duo showed skills and resistance against the pace bowlers and conjointly put 39 runs in 4 overs. However, Clarke was caught at 28 (17). In the powerplay, the score was 59-1 and that jumped to 67 in the 7th over. After 10 overs, Jeet Raval and Seifert helped Knights to put 84 runs on the scoreboard. After the drinks, Raval got LBW out by Todd Astle at 22 (19). After 15 overs, Knights needed 37 runs in 30 balls with 8 wickets in hand. They were quite confident about winning the league and they did.
Northern Knights won by 7 wickets and they successfully chased the target in 18 overs. The Super Smash 2022-23 is won by Northern Knights.
