Indian Premier League 2023: GT Chased Down CSK’s 179Target to Win the IPL Opener by 5 Wickets

Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings faced each other in the 1st match of IPL 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad came to bat and Mohammed Shami opened the bowling attack. In the 2nd over, Gaikwad hit a four on the first ball and it was the first boundary of the match. In the 3rd over, Devon Conway got out after scoring 1(6) and it was 100th IPL wicket for Mohammed Shami. In the 4th over, Ruturaj Gaikwad hit back-to-back two boundaries. In the 5th over, Moeen Ali hit back-to-back three boundaries. In the 6th over, Moeen Ali hit a four and CSK reached 50 runs. He got out after scoring 23(17) on the fifth ball. After 6 overs, CSK was at 51-2.

In the 7th over, Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed back-to-back two sixes. In the 8th over, Ben Stokes hit a four and got out after scoring 7(6).  In the 9th over, Gaikwad started the over with a six and scored a half-century with a six on the third ball. In the 11th over, Gaikwad hit a six and CSK reached 100 runs. In the 12th over, Gaikwad hit a six on the third ball and Rayudu ended the over with the six. After 12 overs, CSK was at 114-3.

In the 13th over, Rayudu got out after scoring 12(12) on the fifth ball. In the 17th over, CSK reached 150 runs. In the 18th over, Gaikwad got out after scoring 92(50) on the first ball and Jadeja got out after scoring 1(2) on the fourth ball. In the 19th over, Shivam Dube hit a six on the second ball and got out on the next ball after scoring 19(18). In the 20th over, MS Dhoni hit back-to-back two boundaries.

In 20 overs, Chennai Super Kings scored 178 runs with a loss of 7 wickets.

Chasing 179 runs, Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha came to bat and Deepak Chahar opened the bowling attack. In the 2nd over, Wriddhiman Saha hit back-to-back two boundaries. In the 4th over, Saha hit a four and got out after scoring 25(16) on the fifth ball. In the 5th over, Shubman Gill hit two boundaries and Gujrat Titans reached 50 runs. After 6 overs, GT was at 65-1.

In the 9th over, Shubman Gill took a single and the partnership between Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill reached 50 runs. In the 10th over, Sai Sudharsan got out after scoring 22(17) on the third ball. In the 11th over, Shubman Gill hit back-to-back two boundaries on the last two balls and GT reached 100 runs. In the 12th over, Shubman Gill took a single and scored a half-century. After 12 overs, GT was at 111-2.

In the 13th over, Hardik Pandya got out after scoring 8(11) on the first ball. In the 15th over, Shubman Gill hit a six on the fifth ball and got out on the next ball after scoring 63(36). In the 18th over, Rahul Tewatia took a single on the third ball and GT reached 150 runs. Vijay Shankar hit a six on the 4th ball and got out on the last ball after scoring 27(21). In the 19th over, Rashid Khan smashed two boundaries and GT reached near to the total. Rahul Tewatia smashed the winning boundary, Gujarat Titans scored 182-5 and won the match by 5 wickets.
