Bangladesh Premier League: Rangpur Riders Won by 2 Wickets Against Dhaka Dominators; Advances to the Playoffs
Rangpur Riders won the toss and opted to bowl first in the 34th Match of BPL 2023 played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. For Dhaka Dominators, Mithun and Soumya Sarkar opened the batting while Mahedi Hasan opened the bowling attack. Mithun hit a boundary on the very first ball of the over but got run out at 5 (2). Soon, Azmatullah bowled Nasir Hossain in the next over. After 2 overs, DHDM were on 8-2. Rangpur played outstandingly with the ball, limiting Dhaka to a below-average total. As a result of Azmatulah’s two wickets and his ability to confuse the batters with extra pace and bounce, the top order was unable to make an impact. Then, Mamun and Blake put together a strong defense, but Hasan Mahmud defeated the latter. Mahedi Hasan then caught Mamum in the front. The run flow for Dhaka was continuously hampered by losing wickets, and they struggled the entire time. Dhaka reached 130 in 20 overs losing 8 wickets thanks to a crucial cameo from Ariful Haque lower in the order and a late batting flourish from Amir Hamza in the last over. The most effective bowler was Azmatullah, who claimed two wickets. The other bowlers contributed with wickets as well.
In the run chase, Naim and Rony Talukdar came to bat and Shoriful Islma opened the bowling attack. With the new ball, Shoriful Islam was deadly, quickly dismissing Naim and Mahedi early in the innings. Rony and Nurul then got together and played some reasonable cricket. They eliminated the poor balls and kept the scoreboard going. They put together a 92-run partnership for the third wicket, and they nearly had the game in hand before the turnaround. When Rangpur was cruising at 102, the partnership was broken; they only lost 6 wickets for 22 runs. Some of the shots were utterly unneeded and careless. They nearly lost the game, but common sense won out, and Haris Rauf maintained his composure to score the winning runs in the deciding over. Rangpur Riders won by 2 wickets.
With the ball, Shoriful and Nasir excelled, taking 3 and 4 wickets, respectively. However, they didn’t have enough points to play with. They ultimately failed to lead their squad across the final line. Rangpur advances to the playoffs as the fourth and final team with this victory.
