India Women and Bangladesh Women stood against each other in the 15th Match of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2022. India Women won the toss and opted to bat first. The Indian openers, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, kept hitting the opposition right from the first over, scoring 7 runs of the over.
In the first 10 overs, India was cruising at 91/0, but they lost some steam as the opening partnership was broken. Jemimah made sure the total reached 160 by keeping the scoreboard going. Smriti and Shafali came out firing in the powerplay, using their feet and playing a lot of overhead shots. Although the stand-in captain, Mandhana, missed her fifty, her partner didn’t. Shafali scored 55 runs off 44 balls. Post the dismissal of both openers, Rodrigues kept the scoreboard moving. After the 20 overs, India scored 159-5.
In the run chase, although the Bangladesh openers enjoyed a respectable partnership, their strike rates fell short of expectations. Murshida Khatun gave her wicket to Sneh Rana, leaving the crease at a score of 45 runs in 9.1 overs. Nigar Sultana who came up next could feel the pressure of such a high necessary run rate after that partnership was broken. Although the Bangladeshi captain played a good and crucial knock of 36 runs but it was never going to be enough for the team to beat India. Bangladesh could only manage to add 100 runs on the scoreboard in 20 overs at a loss of 7 wickets.
India W outperformed Bangladesh W to win the match by a great margin of 59 runs. In addition to her fifty, Shafali Verma bowled a very good spell in which she was very frugal and picked up a few wickets. Verma became the Player of the Match in the 15th Match of Women’s Asia Cup 2022.
