Suresh Raina was the backbone of the CSK batting line-up and the middle order. He was one of the few players with consistency and such a dangerous strike rate. Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina debuted in ODI in 2005, T20 in 2006, and Test in 2010. He is one of the finest batsmen in T20 for India. Fans also called him “Chinna Thala.” Suresh Raina earned this with his performance. In the first season, he started his IPL journey with a bang, scored 421 runs, and his strike rate was above 142. It was just a start, and continued his form and scored 400-plus runs in 9 out of 13 seasons. 2015 was the first season where he couldn’t touch the 400 mark, and it said about his consistency.

He was the first person to touch the mark of 2000, 3000, and 5000 runs in the IPL and the second person to touch the mark of 4000 runs.

Many players have taken over Suresh Raina, but only he deserves to be called Mr. IPL. He has helped his team to win the IPL trophy 4 times, and other players have struggled to win the trophy or couldn’t make an impact on the field.

Suresh Raina’s Career Over the Years

Suresh Raina is a former Indian player who retired from international cricket in 2020. He debuted in ODI in 2015 against Sri Lanka, and couldn’t contribute anything and got out on a duck. He debuted in T20 in 2006 against South Africa but has nothing to do and remains not out on 3 runs. Since Suresh Raina established himself as the one of best T20 batters of the India team, he waited for a long time to debut in the test side and got the chance in 2010 against Sri Lanka. In the first test, he scored a century and arrived in the test world. Unfortunately, his first century is his last century.

Suresh Raina has played 18 test matches in his career and scored 768 runs with 1 century and 7 half-centuries. In 226 ODI, he scored 5615 runs with 5 centuries and 36 half-centuries. He got dropped in 2018 from the white ball cricket and couldn’t return to the International side, and took retirement from international cricket in 2020.

Suresh Raina didn’t play in the 2020 and 2022 IPL. Both years were very controversial for him. In 2020, Covid-19 happened and the IPL shifted to Dubai, but he didn’t play in the IPL and returned to his home. In 2021, he became part of the CSK squad and won the IPL trophy, but he became unsold in the mega auction in 2022.
