Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is the most successful team in the T20 world cup. They have won 32 matches and lost 19 in 51 matches. Sri Lanka has been part of the world cup since the first world cup and won the world cup once in 2014. They won against India in the 2014 T20 world cup final and lost the final twice. In 2009, they lost the final against Pakistan, and in 2012 they lost the final against West Indies.

The Sri Lanka team has struggled in recent years, and is in the transition phase. After the retirement of big names like Kumar Sangakara, Mahela Jayawardene, and Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sri Lanka has struggled too much to make the right combination. In 2022, Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup under Dashun Shanka’s captaincy, and they warned the world that they were back.

Pakistan

Pakistan is the second number with 28 wins in 47 matches and lost 19 matches. In the 2007 world cup, they entered the semifinal but lost the final against India. After two years, they again reached the final and won the title. In the 2021 world cup, Pakistan lost the semifinal against Australia, and in 2022 they lost the final against England. In recent years, Pakistan was around the title, but their batting let them down. The over-dependence on the captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan stopped them to win the title. Pakistan middle orders are a concern and they have to work on this for the title.

India

India is at third number with 28 wins in 44 matches, while they lost 15 matches, and one match ended with no results. They were the first winners of the T20 world cup in 2007. After the first edition, the World cup is not going great for the Indian team. In 2009, 2010, and 2012 world Cups, they were knock-out from the first stage, and the 2021 world cup was also not great for India as they were kicked out from the group stage.

The 2021 edition of the world cup was challenging for India as they lost the crucial match against New Zealand and Pakistan. BCCI went through several changes after the 2021 world cup. Rohit Sharma was named the captain of the Indian cricket team, and the year 2022 has been great for India. They also reached the semifinal in 2022 but lost against England by 10 wickets.

England

England is next on the list with 24 wins in 44 matches, lost 19 matches, and one match ended with no result. England is the most successful team in the world cup with West Indies as they won the title twice. 

In recent years, England has reformed the team and made the changes. They have added a specialist player to the team, and it has paid off and won the 2022 world cup. The aggressive attitude may backfire, but they decided to get full in. England captain Eoin Morgan retired from the international, and ECB named Josh Butler as captain.

England won the title in 2010, and 2022 is the second title for them. 2022 has not started great for England, and they lost the match against Ireland in the super 12 stages. But they made a great comeback and won the title against Pakistan. 

New Zealand

New Zealand is in the fifth position with 23 wins in 42 matches and lost 19 matches. Kiwis are one of the unluckiest teams of the ICC tournament as they ended their journey in the world cup around the title.

They are the most consistently performing team and are outstanding throughout the world cup. In 2021, New Zealand reached the final but lost against Australia, while in 2022, they reached the semifinal and lost against Pakistan. The beauty of the kiwis, they didn’t play with the big names but are the most consistent performers of the world cup.

New Zealand is not known for the experiment, and they stick to their basics.
