ICC Under 19 Womens T20 World Cup 2023: South Africa Women Won the Nail-Biting Match Against Sri Lanka Women by 1 Run 

The women squads, South Africa and Sri Lanka came against each other at North-West University No1 Ground, Potchefstroom for a Super Group 1 match.

With both the captains on the pitch, South Africa women won the toss and opted to bat first. Simone Lourens and Miane Smit opened the batting attack on the opening bowling of Rashmi Nethranjalee. In the first over, Lourens hit the first boundary of the innings. After 3 overs, South Africa women got a score of 22 runs.

In the 4th over, Dewmi Vihanga dismissed Lourens and Miane Smit, restricting at a score of 14 off 14 balls and 8 off 8 deliveries respectively. After 6 overs, their score shifted to 45-2. Scoring 21 runs in 12 balls, Landman lost her wicket to Harini Perera.

After 7 overs, South Africa women team crossed the half-century with a score of 51-2. In the 10th over, Jenna Evans crunched three fours, jumping up to a score of 72-3 by the end of that over.

With Reyneke on the pitch, South Africa women reached the century with a score of 100-4 after 15 overs. Fueling 43 runs in 49 balls, she got holed out on the bowling from Vidushika Perera.

In 20 overs, South Africa women posted 134 runs on the scoreboard with a loss of 7 wickets.

To chase down the target of 135 runs, Nethmi Senarathna and Sumudu Nisansala opened the batting attack on the opening bowling of Miane Smit. In the 2nd over, Nisansala bought the first four for the side. After 3 overs, Sri Lanka got a score of 7. Scoring 5 runs in 10 balls, Senarathna lost her wicket to Moncho.

After 6 overs, SL women’s score shifted to 26-1 and the side crossed the half-century with a score of 54-2 after 11 overs. Adding 36 runs in 49 balls for the side, Senarathna lost her wicket to Reyneke. With Vihanga standing tough for the side, SL women crossed the century with a score of 108/3 after 17 overs.

In 20 overs, Sri Lanka women scored 133 runs with a loss of 8 wickets and won the match by just 1 run.
