In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup IRE vs SL match, Ireland won the toss and opted to bat first against Sri Lanka on the grounds of Bellerive Oval, Hobart.

The pitch was expected to be a little bouncy, favoring the side for spinners. Stirling and Balbirnie set the opening batting with Binura Fernando on the bowling attack.

Scoring 34 off 25, Dhananjaya took Stirling in the 9th over. After a successful 12 overs, Ireland jumped to 74-4 and needed a good partnership. Fueling hope and runs for the team, Harry Tector helped the team to manage the score of 100-4 after 15 overs. Adding 45 off 42, Binura Fernando took the wicket of Tector, got caught out to Shanaka.

Ireland set a run record of 128 runs in 20 overs with a loss of 8 wickets.

To chase down the target of 129, Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya opened the batting side with Joshua Little on the bowling attack. Mendis made a great start, crunching the first four and a six for Sri Lanka, registering a score of 27 after 3 overs with no loss of wickets.

Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Mendis played in a great partnership and reached the mark of half-century, 50 after 6 overs.

With Mendis crossing 50 single-handedly, he helped his team move the score up to 100-1 after 13 overs. The great partnership of Mendis and Charith Asalanka on the side, Sri Lankan batters thrilled Ireland scoring 133.
