International League T20: Sharjah Warriors Prevails Against Gulf Giants With 21-Runs Win
In the 14th of International League T20, Sharjah Warriors and Gulf Giants came against each other at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Gulf Giants won the toss and opted to bowl first. After losing Gurbaz early in the innings and Kohler-Cadmore in the powerplay, things were not right for Sharjah. The Giants continued to make progress when he was strangled down the leg during the final powerplay. Moeen Ali and Nabi were terminated following starts, while Malan was terminated cheaply. With a fifty, Joe Denly kept the innings together, but Chris Jordan and the Giants’ outstanding bowling kept the batting side’s score below par.
Sharjah Warriors successfully posted 151-7 in 20 overs and Giants had to chase 152 in 20 overs. In the run chase, Rehman Ahmed and James Vince came at the crease and Woakes opened the bowling attack. Rehman got dismissed early in the very first over without scoring even a run. Soon, James Vince got the outside edge and was dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq at off 2 balls. In 8 overs, Gulf Giants were 34-6 and that wrapped the game for Sharjah Warriors. If not for Lynn and Wiese, a couple of great hitters, the Giants’ chances were all but over after losing 6 wickets in the space of 8 overs while chasing 152. The wickets column and the steadily rising needed rate seemed to be the constant worry throughout the chase, despite Jordan smashing a few near the finish. Overall, the Warriors gained a much-needed victory after dropping their opening three games of the competition. They have already moved up to fourth place after two wins in a row, but the Gulf Giants remain in control at the top of the standings.
Sharjah warriors ended the innings of Gulf Giants at 130 in 19.4 overs, breaking their winning streak in this season of ILT20.
