At Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, the captains came up for the toss and England won and elected to bowl first in the ENG vs IRE match. 

That was a fresh pitch to start the game with shorter boundaries and batters had an advantage of smashing a big score. Pitch was also good for the fast bowlers. 

Stirling and Balbirnie opened the batting at the crease with Stokes on the bowling attack. Stirling hit the first boundary of the innings and Balbirnie smashed another four, getting a score of 15 after 2 overs and Stirling lost his wicket to Mark Wood. Woakes continued to leak runs to Ireland. 

Tucker kept fueling runs with a high hit of fours and sixes, leading the team crossing the half-century with a score of 59-1 after 6 overs. Ireland ended their powerplay innings strongly. 

The run partnership of Tucker and Balbirnie proved to be fruitful for the side and got up to getting a century after 11.2 overs with a loss of 1 wicket and Blbirnie immediately lost his crucial wicket to Adil Rashid. The side lost the next few wickets frequently and reached at a score of 133-5 after 16 overs.

Ireland set a run score of 157 runs and got bowled out in just 19.2 overs. 

To begin the run chase in the IRE vs ENG match, Buttler and Hales were up on the crease to face the bowling of Joshua Little who took the first wicket of Buttler in the first ball only. The left handed batter Dawid Malan took the batting charge. 

Hales cracked a shot for their first boundary but Joshua led no more time for him to score more and took his wicket. England had a score of 14 after 3 overs with a loss of 2 wickets. Malan stood on a stronger side for England and helped the team to cross half-century, moving the score up to 53-3 after 9 overs.

With Malan and Moeen Ali on batting strike, England got a score of 86-4 after 13 overs. 

The side could only manage to score 105 in 14.3 overs with a loss of 5 wickets. 

The cricket authorities implemented the DLS method that pushed Ireland to a match by 5 runs against England.
