
The head coach of team India, Rahu Dravid, tested positive for COVID-19, and this has delayed his travel with the team, which is supposed to be in Dubai today for the Asia Cup. The symptoms are not so harsh, and Dravid is believed safe. Despite this, he is supposed to rest for two days. Till then, Paras Mhambrey, the bowling coach, will handle the affairs.
The call regarding VVS Laxman coaching again as he coached India in Zimbabwe as Dravid took a short break will be taken very soon. It will be decided then Laxman will join team India in Dubai, but this will happen after Dravid returns from the rest. On August 28, 2022, India is supposed to play its first match against Pakistan.
As per a BCCI release, “Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022. Mr. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report. The rest of the team will assemble in the UAE on August 23, 2022.”
Before the announcement of the team for the T-20 World Cup, Asia Cup is going to be the last tournament the team India is supposed to play. The t-20 World Cup will take place in the month of October-November in Australia. Considering all the facts, the Asia cup is essential and could be the qualifying round for the t-20 World Cup selection.
There is word around the market that most of the selection for the team has already been made, but the Asia cup could add some names. Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah are at NCA in Bangalore, and team India is waiting for them to recover soon.
