In the 56th over, Harry Brook hit back-to-back two fours and brought his 150 runs in the test, and England reached 250 runs. In the 58th over, Harry Brook smashed six on the fourth and broke his highest run record in tests. Harry Brook never looked back and continued hitting boundaries. He smashed at least one boundary in each over. In the 63rd over, Root smashed back-to-back two fours and reached into the 90s. In the 65th over, Root started the over with four, took a double on the last ball, and reached his century.
England was in trouble after the initial blow, but Joe Root and Harry Brook made sure England won’t lose any wickets without reducing the net run rate. Both the pair made a partnership of 294 for the 4th wicket until the rain came and stopped the match.
After the rain, the match could not resume, and umpires called the stumps due to low light. England scored 315-3 in 65 overs at the end of day 1. Harry Brook and Joe Root were playing at the score of 184(169) and 101(182), respectively.
