India Women vs England Women 3rd ODI – Jhulan, Renuka put India on top as England crumbled in 170-run chase

Summary – With tremendous balling, Women in Blue won the 3rd ODI Ind Vs Eng series by 37 runs and gave a winning farewell to Jhulan Goswami.

Today, the Indian team was overcome with emotion as they bid farewell to the legendary bowler Jhulan Goswami, who played in her final international game. To bid Jhulan a proper farewell, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team won the third and final ODI of the series. Jhulan has taken over 350 international wickets in her remarkable career. She now has the most ODI wickets and could increase that total today.

Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana travelled to open for India. In the meantime, England’s opening over was bowled by Freya Davies. India lost their first four wickets within the first nine overs, slumping to 29/4. Deepti Sharma provided Smriti Mandhana with the able company as she stood at one end while wickets fell at the other. The partnership scored 58 runs for the fourth wicket before Mandhana was bowled oddly. The opener was about to record a big score after scoring 50 out of 79 when she tumbled. Deepti Sharma continues Mandhana’s good work, but India has also lost another wicket at the other end. India is looking to make it 3-0, having sealed their first series win in England since 1999, and thus give the retiring Jhulan Goswami the best send-off possible.

In response to a coordinated effort from the English bowling squad, India has been limited to 169. For the Indian innings, only Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma stood out, with Kate Cross leading England with four wickets. Smriti Mandhana’s 50 off 79 and Deepti Sharma’s 69 off 106, along with some significant side smashes from Pooja Vastrakar, have brought them close to 170.

After the break, the second inning started. Jhulan Goswami had the ball, and Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb were on the crease at the other end. To be safe, the team chased 19 runs during the powerplay. England lost their top five players within the first 15 overs due to India’s strong start, and wickets have continued to tumble steadily ever since. Although 170 may not seem like a large goal for an ODI game, it is now too high a score for England, as they risk being completely swept by India at home. After 23 overs, Charlie Dean and Amy Jones started to form a small partnership and played a good inning.  Chasing a total of 170, the England team was nine wickets down against India at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium. With tremendous balling, Women in Blue won the 3rd ODI Ind Vs Eng series by 37 runs and gave a winning farewell to Jhulan Goswami.
