India pulled off its 2nd consistent win in the 3-match ODI series by a 5-wickets win against Zimbabwe bowling it all out at 161 on August 20, 2022. India’s fast bowlers Sanju Samson at unbeaten 43 and Deepak Hooda delivered impressive knocks. With this victory in hand, India has been leading the board with 2-0. India extended its record, winning the 13th ODI match against Zimbabwe in a row.
The Zimbabwe squad showed some early blows but couldn’t stand tough against team India. In the chase to beat Zimbabwe in Harare stadium, India finished with nearly half innings remaining on their side.
KL Rahul had an early dismissal for 5 by LPW to Victor Nyauchi in the second over, Shubham Gill and Shikhar took the charge to proceed with the chase. Moreover, Sanju held the team up chasing down the target in 25.4 overs with 5 wickets in hand.
With aggressive moves on the pitch, Shikhar Dhawan hit 4 boundaries in his 21-ball and extended it to 33 before falling woefully short from Tanaka Chivanga. With Shardul Thakur being accountable for the majority of India’s wickets, Siraj’s 8 overs managed to yield only 16 runs and all the bowlers took wickets of the opponents.
In a 36 run-association, Gill picked the rhythm with Ishan Kishan, who could grab only 6.
Regis Chakbava said, ‘We were a few runs short with the bat.’ After 12.4 overs, Zimbabwe reached the scoring territory of 31.
Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams put in their efforts to extend their innings but Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav continued with their fierce attacking skills. Raza and Williams ended their 41 runs partnership after battling against Axar’s arm balls.
Right after the match ended, Regis Chakabva said, ‘I think we had a really good fight. Last game we struggled to pick up wickets. Today we were short with a few runs. Today we were up for the challenge, the bowlers hit their lengths really well. We’ve struggled to pick early wickets in the last few games and we did that today. We fell short of runs on the board. Our execution lacked a little bit in the end, and we’re looking to score more runs. The bowlers came out charging and they tried to hit their lengths.’
