In the third and final ODI played on Sunday, India defeated Sri Lanka with a biggest margin of 317 runs in the ODI history. India put a target of 391 for Lankans, with exquisite hundreds from Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill.  While Gill scored 116 runs off 97 deliveries, Kohli was still unbeaten at 166 off 110 balls.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, opener Gill and captain Rohit Sharma (42) set up 95 runs in 15.2 overs before Kohli blasted his 46th ODI century and 74th overall in international cricket to help India’s innings gain momentum. 131 runs were shared by Kohli and Gill for the second wicket. India scored 390/5 in 50 overs with Shubman Gill scoring 116 and Virat Kohli remaining unbeaten with 166 runs in his name.

In the run chase, Sri Lankans didn’t get a chance to make a comeback. Siraj stood out with a four-for as ruthless India destroyed Lanka in the decisive match following Virat Kohli’s century. Whatever little hope the visitors may have had was dashed by Siraj’s new-ball blast, and the procession just never stopped. One pair faced 20 or more deliveries, and only three batters reached double digits. Doesn’t that encompass the second innings? India only needed to utilise three professional bowlers, and Iyer also bowled one lone over. Siraj came agonisingly close to getting the fifer he deserved. Karunaratne’s dismissal is the only one that somewhat reflects the current state of Sri Lanka.

Siraj dismissed 4 Sri Lankan batters while Kuldeep and Shami got 2 wickets each and helped India to restrict the guest at 73-10 in 22 overs. India won by the biggest ODI margin of 317 runs in its history.
