Key Highlights

  • India won the toss and opted to bowl first
  • SA got bowled out at 99 in 27.1 overs
  • SA records its lowest score against India in ODIs
  • Indian spinners took 8 wickets in the match
  • Kuldeep Yadav dismissed 4 SA batters

India won the toss and invited South Africa to bat first. The first inning started with Janneman Malan and de Kock on the crease, and Washington opened the attack. India got their first successful wicket of de Kock in the 3rd over. Washington threw a slightly wide ball outside off; de Kock hit the ball, turned into the top edge, and the ball flew straight to the fielder at short third man.

Siraj came to bowl his 4th over and took a crucial wicket of Janneman Mallan after conceding a few boundaries. It was a short and quick delivery by the pacer, and Malan had lined up in the crease as he went for the pull shot. It gets enough elevation, but Avesh Khan at the deep square leg completes the formalities. Janneman Mallan was gone after scoring 15(27).

9th over was the maiden over of Avesh Khan as he didn’t give a single chance to batters to take runs. Siraj dismissed Hendricks as well in the 10th over. Siraj gave a short ball on the leg, and Hendricks took off his eyes as he went ahead with the pull shot. At short fine leg, Bishnoi fumbled on the first attempt but took it on the second. South Africa was in trouble as they lost three wickets, and their run rate was not great during the powerplay. SA scored 26/3 during the powerplay.

India made a good start in Ind Vs SA ODI, and SA needed a good partnership to steady the ship after the 14 overs. Another wicket has gone in the 15th over. Ahmed tossed the ball up and drew Markram forward on the drive, which dipped on him, turned away, and nicked it through to the keeper. He was dragged out of his crease as well in trying to reach for the ball, so he would’ve been stumped if there was no edge.

Miller came into the crease and tried to turn the match in favor of South Africa but could not stay for long and lost his wicket in the 189th over. Washington bowled him out after scoring 7(8).

Then Kuldeep Yadav came to bowl his overs and took his first wicket in the 20th over. Phehlukwayo got out after 5(5). Klaasen was the only one who looked good out there, but even he couldn’t survive for too long. Shahbaz dismissed Klassen in the  25th over. It was a risk Klaasen took to good effect previously. This time Shahbaz knocked him over. Flat length ball around middle, it gripped and turned a little, Klaasen made room looking to cut but missed, and the stumps were disturbed.

In less than 28 overs, South Africa was bowled out for 99, losing 8 wickets to spin as Washington, Shahbaz, and Kuldeep ran riot on a surface that was helpless but by no means unplayable.
