ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 – England vs New Zealand, 33rd Match, Super 12 Group 1 Preview

From the latest cricket updates, the teams England and New Zealand will lock horns against each other on November 1 at The Gabba.

These teams have 3 points to their tally with registering a 5-wicket win against Afghanistan. Then, they got shockingly defeated by 5 runs against Ireland, implementing the DLS method. Moreover, their much anticipated clash with Australia at the MCG was called off due to heavy rain.

Under the captaincy of Jos Buttler, the side couldn’t afford to lose any match from here onwards as one more defeat would cost them semi-finals entry which would crush their hopes.

The Group 1 matches have already been highly competitive for the players and giving them extra points due to it being washed out due to rain. This match would be really crucial for England.

On the contrary, the New Zealand team is a strong contender for the semis berth from Group 1. Getting a big win over the defending champions, Australia and the Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka, the kiwis are on a roll. The BlackCaps could have easily won 3 out of 3 matches but rain played a spoilsport in their Super 12 gameplay against Afghanistan. New Zealand has 3 points to their tally at an NRR of 3.850.

Against Sri Lanka, New Zealand emerged victorious on the back of 2nd T20I century of Glenn Phillips. Also, this was the second century of the World Cup.

The skipper Kane Williamson said, ‘Incredible, any hundred is amazing but the way he worked hard and put pressure on the opposition after our poor start. We were being aggressive but keeping it simple in the powerplay, the length ball was the most difficult to hit, so we stuck to that and those cutters. The boys executed the plans really well.’‘

Words By Assistant Coach of England, Paul Collingwood

‘It’s almost into the knockout stages now in terms of how we’ve got to go about our cricket. It’s a must-win game, and this is why we play the game. This is the position that you want to be in to have an opportunity to win a World Cup. Tomorrow hopefully kick-starts our momentum and if we can put in a good performance tomorrow, then it will give us a lot of confidence for the last three games.’

Words By Lockie Ferguson On Expectations From England

‘What you always expect from England. They come out very hot. They pride themselves probably on that aggressive nature and bat very deep. Certainly we need to come out with our own brand of aggressive play, and that’s not to say that it’s anything different to what we have done, and we have a different way of going about that. But certainly the way Tim and Trent have started us off has put us a great foot forward in our first two games, so I think from that point of view, nothing needs to change too much, and we just need to adjust to the conditions on the day.’
