International League T20: Gulf Giants Outperformed Dubai Capitals to Record 6 Wickets Win
In the 5th match of International League T20, the world witnessed Dubai Capitals vs Gulf Giants. The toss favoured Gulf Giants who chose to bowl first and invited DCP to bat first. To begin the innings, Uthappa and Root came to bat first. The duo built a solid partnership of 71 runs before Root got run out in the 8th over. Uthappa played nicely, scoring 79 off 46 balls. Powell and Raza contributed in the middle order to power DCP to put a target of 182-8 in 20 overs.
The hosts’ outstanding start was a crucial factor in how they were able to reach 182. They were cruising along nicely and could have hit 200, but it was not to be, so they will still be frustrated. Vince’s ingenuity in the field caused Root to leave, but Uthappa continued to move at a high rate of knots. Powell, the captain, moved up the lineup and didn’t let the momentum stall with several big hits. In the final three overs, the visitors somewhat tightened up as they only gave up 18 runs. For the visitors, Rehan Ahmed and Gleeson were the top two bowlers, each taking three and two wickets.
In the run chase, James Vince and Rehan Ahmed were at the crease while Udana opened the bowling attack for DCP. The duo put 43 runs on the scoreboard before Rehan was bowled by Mujeeb at 28 off 17 runs. Soon, Ollie Pope got LBW out by Mujeeb. After 6 overs, the score was 43-2. Vince and Erasmus tried to stablise the sloppy innings of GLG but the asking rate was rising, putting additional pressure on the batters. After 9 overs, GLG needed 113 runs off 66 deliveries and they had 8 wickets in hand. James ended up scoring his second ILT20 fifty. After, 15 overs, GLG scored 141-2 and Erasmus completed his maiden half century and they got run out. At that time, GLG needed 33 off 26 balls. Hetmyer came to bat next and hit a boundary to Mujeeb but could do much and Powell holed out him in 18th over. James was still there on the crease and was leading the batting for GLG.
GLG needed 9 runs in 12 balls and they had a firm grasp over the match. In the end, GLG had a last laugh as they won by 6 wickets. Vince remained unbeaten, scoring 83 off 56 balls.
