Everything You Need to Know About the T20 World Cup

In India, cricket is one of the sports that are most popular and watched. Cricket fans get crazy about the T20 World Cup because of its enthusiasm and excitement. When the T20 match is taking place in the stadium, there is not a single empty seat. One of the best features of this game format is that there is only 20 overs total, allowing spectators to find out the outcome as soon as possible without having to wait too long.

ICC T20 World Cup- All You Need to Know

The inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup took place in South Africa in 2007. Cricket’s 20-over format made its debut in the first edition, with India defeating Pakistan in a thrilling final. Since then, the T20 World Cup trophy has been won by Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Australia.

Let’s have a look at the opponents each winner overcame to obtain the coveted crown.

Rules & History

The fundamental principles are the same as for the longer versions, but innings are limited to 20 overs per side, with a maximum of four overs allotted to each bowler, and there are rules governing where fielders can be placed that are meant to encourage big hitting by the batsmen and large scores. T20 cricket quickly rose to prominence as the most lucrative and well-liked format, especially in India, where the Indian Premier League (IPL) draws sizable crowds in person and millions more via television.

The former Test batsman Martin Crowe created a condensed version of cricket known as Cricket Max in New Zealand in the 1990s, but the England and Wales Cricket Board set the official rules for T20, and the English county teams played in the first competition in 2003.

Other nations rapidly embraced the concept, and two years later, in Auckland, the first official international T20 game was played between Australia and New Zealand. Both teams sported 1980s-era outfits and somewhat phony mustaches. But it soon became clear that T20 could bring a fresh, young, vibrant audience to cricket.

T20 was credited with bringing cricket back to life in the twenty-first century with its cheerleaders, loud music, and quick-fire entertainment. After apprehension, players started to develop the new abilities required by T20 while also enhancing their fielding, throwing, and conditioning. The survival of Test cricket, which is thought to be the purest and most complex form of the game, was, however, feared by traditional cricket supporters as being inexorably threatened by T20.

Winner List of All Time in T20 World Cup

The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup is a global event that is hosted by the International Cricket Council (ICC). In 2007, South Africa hosted the first event. Pakistan placed second in the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with India taking the first position.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 has been won by Australia by an 8-wicket margin. At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, it featured Australia and New Zealand. Australia won the toss and decided to field. To attain the 173 runs that New Zealand had set in 20 overs, Australia needed 18.5 overs.

The only team to have twice won ICC T20 World Cup was the West Indies. Australia has won the ICC T20 World Cup once despite winning the 50-over Cricket World Cup five times. They came close to winning the championship in 2010 but ultimately fell to Ashes rivals England.

The only side to have lost two T20 World Cup Finals in Sri Lanka, which won the tournament in 2014. They failed in 2009 and again in 2012.

The Craze of ICC T20 World Cup

According to the body that oversees the sport, the ICC men’s T20 World Cup attracted a record-breaking 167 million television viewers globally.

As the event made its five-year comeback, about 10,000 hours of live coverage were offered across TV and digital platforms in 200 countries.

There was a surge in viewing and consumption in the strategic US market as well as in India, Pakistan, the UK, Australia, and Australia. The much-awaited India-Pakistan encounter was watched for a record-breaking 15.9 billion minutes in India on the Star India Network.

The ICC claims that the game is now the most viewed T20I match ever, surpassing the semi-final between India and the West Indies from the ICC event held in India in 2016.

Despite India’s early exit from the contest, 112 billion minutes of TV were watched in India throughout the whole competition.

The tournament saw 4.3 billion views overall across all media, up from 3.6 billion views for the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The collaboration between the ICC and Facebook played a significant role in the significant increase in video views.
