At the end of day three, New Zealand was at 63-5 and trailed by 331 runs. Black Capas was in danger of losing the match as 5 batters had returned to the pavilion. Stuart Broad had delivered a heroic spell and took 4 out of 5 wickets. Michael Bracewell 25(33), and Daryl Mitchell 13(33) were holding on to the crease at the end of the day.

Bracewell and Mitchell resumed the batting, and Jack Leach started the bowling. Mitchell hit the first boundary of the day in 23.2 overs. Bracewell couldn’t add any runs to the score and got out after scoring 25(42), and Jack Leach took his wicket.

In the 27 over, Kuggeleijn got out on the fifth ball after scoring 2(6), and Southee got out on duck on the next ball. James Anderson took both wickets. Wagner got out after scoring 9(22), and it was the third wicket for Anderson.

In the 37th over, Tickner hit two fours, Mitchell smashed a six in the next over, and New Zealand reached 100 runs. Mitchell kept scoring runs and reached his half-century in the 43rd over. He was the only batter to score fifty for New Zealand in the second innings. Tickner was the last batter to get out, and he scored 8(29). Anderson took his wicket. Anderson and Broad shared four wickets each, and New Zealand got out at 126 runs and lost the match by 267 runs.
